The Electricity Supply, Quality & Continuity Regulations
Basic Electrical Awareness Training / Works on or adjacent to the electricity distribution network
Operatives working on or near to low voltage and high voltage networks need to be properly trained in order to work safely. This course is aimed at non-technical staff who should have an understanding of the dangers of working in proximity to HV/LV cables, substations and overhead lines. The course is delivered using a combination of lectures, interactive sessions and rounds off with an industry related film highlighting the dangers that are prevalent in the operatives’ workplace. This course also satisfies the requirements of the Basic Electrical Awareness training requirements of the NERS.
This course is aimed at UCP staff who will design LV networks, ranging from street lighting supplies up to three-phase services with a maximum supply capacity of 300kVA.
Introduction to power system planning at low voltage
Types of electrical load
Voltage drop calculations
Earth loop impedance
Cable types
Typical metering arrangements
Disturbance loads
Overview of UK Engineering Recommendations
Basic network planning
Protection of LV networks
Work examples
Design approval - informaition to be supplied to DNO's and IDNO's
The course is delivered using a combination of lectures, worked examples and a Q&A session where attendees are given the opportunity to discuss specific projects. Attendees are given a course folder including session notes from the lectures, copies of worked examples and voltage drop calculators.
The worked examples are based upon real schemes that have been designed by UESL and submitted for approval by the DNO/IDNO.
This course is aimed at UCP staff who will design HV/LV networks, ranging from simple commercial supplies at 300kVA up to large industrial users with a supply capacity in excess of 10MVA.
This four day training course affords staff an understanding of high voltage power systems and covers the following subjects:
Introduction to power system planning at high voltage
Typical supply configurations
Network protection at LV and HV
Typical metering arrangements from 300kVA up to 36MVA
Worked examples
Switchgear & network fault levels
The grid system
Substation earthing
Plant and equipment selection
Cable types and usage
Disturbance loads
Distribution substation design
Primary substation design
Load flow studies
Disturbance loads and compliance with UK Engineering Recommendations
Distributed generation
Protection grading studies
This course is aimed at Utility Connection Providers’ cable installation staff and plant operatives.
